Stoke & Wyken end of week update |
||||
|
Dear Residents and Local Businesses, here is your weekly update from your local neighbourhood Policing Team, Stoke and Wyken.
Officers participated in foot and vehicle patrols in and around our local residential areas with our traffic team to participate in OP WOODCORE in relation to crime prevention against burglaries in the area. Aswell as our OP GALVENISE in relation to vehicle crime on the north east area of Coventry at our local hotspots.
This week whilst our officers have been out on active patrols, we’ve had two arrests one for driving without insurance, burglary and driving without a licence.
We hope everyone is enjoying the warmer weather because our officers from the Stoke and Wyken team certainly have whilst conducting foot patrols in our local green areas, such as Caludon Castle Park, Stoke Heath, Barras Green, The Lindfeild and St Margret’s Skate Park. We are also continuing our targeted guardian patrols in the areas of Walsgrave Road, Riley Square, Hillmorton Road and Edgwick Park due to high levels of ASB, so if you see us about feel free to come and say hello.
Crime prevention advice
Burglars will use a variety of ways to avoid being noticed. They don’t want to be seen or heard by a neighbour or passer-by because they will feel exposed and identifiable. Distraction burglars will pretend to be someone they are not, so it’s important you are aware of the common methods they will use to get you to let them into your property. Here’s some useful advice, firstly on helping to keep burglars out by giving them no hiding place and, secondly, on how to prevent a distraction burglary.
Keep it visible You’d think that it would be best to make a property less visible from the street, and to keep it hidden from prying eyes behind overgrown bushes, trees, high fences or walls. In reality, all that this serves to do is make it easier for a burglar to get close to a home unnoticed, and provide somewhere to hide while carrying out a burglary or theft from the property.
Distraction burglary Distraction burglars pretend to be someone they are not in order to gain entry to your home. Common methods used by distraction burglars How to prevent it There are a number of things you can do to prevent distraction burglary. Don’t be afraid to ask questions about anyone at your door – genuine callers won’t mind. Always remember 'if in doubt, keep them out':
Nature watch This week on nature watch whilst our PCSOs have been out on high visibility patrol, one of our PCSOs spotted an uncommon Albino pheasant walking along the grass just off mayflower drive. These uncommon but not rare birds are known mostly for having a rare genetic mutation where they are unable to produce colour. The was to identify these birds is that they have no dark pigment at all, so has the characteristic pink eyes.
Remember to let us know if you spot any unusual or rare animals in the area and get in contact with our neighbourhood team via Wmnow. For non-emergency enquiries or to raise community concerns in the Wyken area, residents are encouraged to contact Coventry Police through their usual channels.
